One Step Paint Project Tips

5 things to tell your customers about One Step chalk-based paint:
  1. No stripping, no sanding, no priming.
  2. Transforms furniture or cabinetry in one step (remember to tell your customers it's one step, not necessarily one coat).
  3. A water based, no VOC paint
  4. Adheres to most any surface including stained, painted or lacquered furniture. Even covers Formica, plastic, metal or stone! Diluted, it can even be used on textiles.
  5. Dries to the flat chalky finish coveted on antique pieces and can be used with Clear Waxes, Cracked Patina to recreate antiqued effects and finishes.

For a Project Like This Your Customer Will Need:
  • One Step Paint
  • China Bristle Paint Brush
  • Simple Green Cleaner
  • Paper Towels
One Step Paint How Tos:
  1.  Prep paint. Turn can of One Step paint upside down at least 30 min. to an hour.
  2. Clean piece with degreaser. Follow up with a damp rag. Let dry.
  3. Mix paint. Shake the paint container 1-2 min. Stir it smooth with a paint stir stick.
  4. Apply 1-2 light coats of One Step paint using paint brush. Use cross hatch strokes to cover it. Allow to dry for 20-30 minutes between coats. (Remember, it's One STEP, not always One COAT).
  5. Apply Clear Wax. Let it come to tack. Buff with a rag.

Lacquer Project Tips

Wake up tired furniture and accessories with rich color and a high-gloss finish.

What Your Customers Need for a Project Like This:
  • Lacquer Primer
  • High Performance Furniture Lacquer
  • Bright Idea Clear Lacquer
  • Simple Green
  • Paper Towels
  • Tack cloth
  • Tarp or Makeshift Spray Booth (a zippered laundry bag works great)
Lacquer Step-By-Step:
  1. Protect surrounding objects fropm overspray. Lay down a tarp, or set up item in a spray booth made out of a laundry bag or box.
  2. Clean piece with a degreaser. Wipe with a damp rag. Let dry.
  3. Lightly sand with 400 grit sandpaper for the sleekest finish.
  4. Apply 1-2 light but even coats of primer. Hold the spray can 6-8 inches away and spray to cover the piece. Start off the piece, move across and let go of the nozzle as you finish off the piece. This movement should be similar to a brushstroke. This prevents drips and pooling. (Primer acts as a sealing and filling agent for a slicker finish and truer color)
  5. Lightly sand with 400 grit sandpaper to smooth any rough spots.
  6. Wipe away sanding dust with a tack cloth.
  7. Apply 2-3 thin coats of furniture lacquer. Use the same technique as the primer and lightly sand in between coats.
  8. Apply 1 coat of Bright Idea.
One Step Paint on Fabric Step-By-Step:
  1. Dilute One Step paint with water about 15%
  2. Apply 2-3 coats. Let dry between coats.
  3. Apply Clear Wax.
